Back to Back Western Kickers Take Dream Team Honors

For the third straight year Walled Lake Western will be represented on the Detroit Free Press All-State Football Dream Team. This is the highest individual status award given by the Michigan AP sports writers. John Camilleri becomes just the sixth player in school history to receive this prestigious honor. He joins fellow Warriors legends Scott Naz ('96), James King ('99), Lorenzo Parker ('99), Josh Jones ('12), and Kyle Bambard ('13) who all excelled at their positions. Coincidentally, Camilleri and Bambard become the first back to back kicking combo to achieve this status in Westerns storied football history. This also marks the first time a junior from Western has been named to the squad. Congrats John!

Western Alum James King #39

The lone Walled Lake player to make the list was James King coming in at #39.

King (Walled Lake Western Class of 2001) Did a little bit of everything on the field for Warriors’ 1999 state-championship squad, excelling at running back, slot back, linebacker and safety. In college, King was a four-year starter and All-Mid-American Conference linebacker at Central Michigan. He was signed by the NFL Cleveland Browns as a strong safety before his career ended due to a legal issue.

Putting together The Oakland Press’ 50-for-50 series, a breakdown of the 50 greatest football players in Oakland County history, wasn’t easy.

Inevitably, some excellent players got left off the list. We’re talking about guys that played in the NFL failing to make the cut, that’s how rigorous and arduous the selection process was. Walled Lake Western had three more players make this "best of the rest list"
