Walled Lake Western opened the season Thursday night looking to avenge last seasons lost to the Trojans of Monroe. There where very few bright spots for Western in the first half outside Edison Vushajs 60 yard TD run. WLW found themselves trailing 9-21 at the half. After the rough start the Warriors found their game in the second half. Conditioning played a major factor as the Trojans began to run out of gas the Warriors began to chip into the lead. Yet with five minutes and a half minutes to go and losing 15�21 Western faced a third and long situation when Sam Welch connected with Marcus Thatcher who made a diving catch to keep Westerns hopes alive. The Warriors would convert on the drive and score a touchdown. Freshman kicker Josh Strange add the extra point to make the score 22-21 WLW with two minutes remaining. Monroe would get one more shot but the Western defense would answer the call forcing a fumble and effectively ending the game. Western (1-0) travels to Livonia Franklin (0-1) next Friday night @ 7:00 pm.
