Warriors improved to 2-1

The Warriors' kicking game was on full display and was as much of a shining moment as any other phase of this convincing win. Kicker Aiden Jennings pounded successful kicks from 54, 44 and 37 yards out. Jennings 54 yard field goal breaks a school record held by previously by Pat Gibson ('96) and Kyle Bambard ('13).

The first half was defensive battle with Western scoring first on a Jennings FG of 44 yds. Then the Warriors offense struck again when Kevin Jackson score on a 5 yard rushing TD. Kettering answer back late in the half scoring their lone TD with 1 minute to play in the half. Western was able to get the ball down just inside the Kettering 40 yard line. After stalling out on 3 straight plays, Coach Grignon set his returning All-State kicker out on the field and Jennings proceeded to calmly kick the ball through from 54 yds with room to spare. The score gave Western a 13-7 lead at the half.

The Warriors offense came out re-energized in the second half and dominated scoring 27 unanswered points. The defense pitched in as well, scoring a touchdown as Chris Harris returned a fumble 15 yards to pay dirt. Offensively, Sam Johnson connected on 11-of-27 throws for 198 yards; Zach Trainer completed one pass for 52 yards and a score; Abdur Raaman Yeseen accounted for 161 receiving yards and one TD; and C.J. Brown rushed for 79 yards and a pair of TDs.

Walled Lake Western improves to 2-1 on the season and will clash with Waterford Mott next week for supremacy in the LVC, as both teams were to finish at the top of the conference this season.

Kettering falls to 0-3 on the year and will face White Lake Lakeland who is 1-2 looking to bounce back from back to back tough loss to Mott and South Lyon.
