Western earns first trip to Finals in 17 years

Lowell closed within a touchdown, but Cody White was able to pick up a crucial first down with a minute remaining and the Warriors were able to run out the clock.

With the win, the Warriors reached the Division 2 finals where they will face Detroit King, a 14-7 winner against Groves.

Walled Lake (12-1) last reached the finals in 2011, and avenged last year's semifinal loss to the Red Arrows.

Lowell finished 12-1.

White rushed for 109 yards and had 40 pass along with 23 receiving yards.

The Red Arrows were led by David Kruse with 149 yards rushing on 35 carries and three touchdowns. He completed 5 of 19 for 122 yards.

The Red Arrows were able to make up some ground with a long 54-yard touchdown run by Nathan Stephens and a long, 10-play, 88-yard drive capped by a 1-yard run by David Kruse.

The biggest play, however, came as the Warriors marched to the Lowell 6-yard line, buy Jalen Marshall fumbled and Sam Russell emerged with it.

The Red Arrows’ mounted a 17-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 2-yard TD run by David Kruse. But the Warriors used a 60-yard kick return by Jack Dodge before White dashed for a 24 yard TD with 23 seconds left.

Lowell, in turn, benefited from three penalties – including a pair of pass interference calls – to quickly reach the six. But, with time expired, David Kruse was stopped short of the end zone.

Walled Lake Western had 228 total yards to 175 for Lowell. Kruse led Lowell with 75 yards on 19 carries and had 86 yards passing on 6 of 9.
