WALLED LAKE - Three was a key number in Walled Lake Western’s 48-34 victory over Northville Friday night. Cody White fired three touchdown passes in the first half to give the Warriors a commanding 27-0 lead and All-State defensive back Jack Dodge intercepted three passes resulting in two touchdown drives in the second half.

White starting his third straight game for the Warriors at quarterback hooked up with Kameron Ford from eight yards out to cap an eight play 81-yard drive to give the hosts a 7-0 lead. With just 11.2 seconds left in the first quarter, White found Ford again on a 40-yard bomb for a 14-0 margin.

Ford’s dazzling 53-yard punt return set up a one yard run by senior tailback Jalen Marshall to give Western a 21-0 lead. White’s tossed his third TD pass to Jack Dodge to give the Warriors a commanding 27-0 margin with 5:11 to go in the half.

Cody White was pleased with his team’s effort on a hot and sticky night in the WL Western’s home opener. “We played like Warriors tonight. I didn’t like the pick that I threw, but I think I played pretty well.” White was 9-for-15 for 201 yards.

Senior kicker Colton Jennings from the Warrior soccer team got a call Thursday night from Coach Zdebski to help out with the kicking duties. Jennings who was the back-up kicker last year drilled six of seven point after attempts as an emergency replacement for Zak Kempster who was out with an injury.

“They are a real good team that is well coached,” said Coach Zdebski after the battle. “We were fortunate to get up 27-0 early and fortunate to get those first two scores in the third quarter.”

Northville got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter on touchdowns by quarterback Jack Burke and wide receiver Anthony Abbott II’s 48-yard touchdown pass from Burke to cut the deficit to 27-14 at halftime.

Jack Dodge picked off his first pass on Northville’s first drive of the third quarter at the Mustangs 48. On the Mustangs next drive Dodge picked off his second pass and returned it to Northville’s 9-yard line. This set up a one yard TD run by Jalen Marshall to give Western a 49-14 margin with 3:02 left in the third quarter.

Senior Jamon Benson closed out the scoring for Western on a 27-yard TD run after Jack Dodge’s third interception. Dodge tied a Warrior record with three interceptions on one game. Northville (2-1) scored three times in the 4th quarter for the 48-34 final.

Dodge was all smiles after the victory. “It’s great to help my team out.” “It’s amazing to get a pick after coming back in after cramping up to set up a score.”

The victory tonight gives the Warriors a 3-0 record as they prepare for the big game next week at Walled Lake Central (1-2). Cody White summed it up by pretty well. “We need to play like Warriors next week in the rivalry game.”
