CANTON - Thunderstorms and lightning delays postponed Thursday night's KLAA matchup between Walled Lake Western and Plymouth Salem. After a 24-hour wait, the Warriors soundly defeated the Rocks 47-7 on Friday afternoon.

Western quarterback Kyle Thomas got the Warriors going in the first quarter hitting Javon Gabriel on a 17-yard pass play to put the Warriors in front 7-0.

Junior Kam Ford's interception and return to the 4-yard line set up a Jake Prokes' (5th TD of season) 1-yard TD plunge.

The Rocks got on the scoreboard with a 65-yard fumble return by Freddie McGee III score in the only points of the night by Salem.

Thomas hooked up with Gabriel again on a 33-yard pass play to put Western up 21-7.

Western's defense led by Darnell Lanier, Jackson Neracher, Cody White, David Langmeyer, Kam Ford, Ryan Steiner, Jack Dodge, Matt Alati, Tyler Shreve and "Big Rob" Hudson gave Salem fits all day. The Western secondary picked off three Salem passes on the day (White, Dodge and Ford). Neracher blitzing from the edge blocked a punt out of end zone for a safety giving the Warriors a 23-7 lead.

After a 31-yard touchdown run by Thomas and a 24-yard field goal by John Camilleri, the Warriors took a 33-7 going into the half.

Western scored again in the third quarter after Darnell Lanier's fumble recovery set up a 1-yard touchdown run by junior Jalen Marshall.

Cody White taking over at quarterback scampered 50 yards for the game's final score sealing the 47-7 victory for the Warriors. Western moves to 2-0 on the season and travels to Waterford Kettering to open up the KLAA North season.
