Cioroch becomes 8th Head coach in WLW history

Walled Lake Western announces the hiring of Kory Cioroch (sir-roach) as the school’s head football coach. Cioroch comes to Western from Farmington High School where he was the head coach the past four seasons. With Cioroch at the helm, the Falcons won the school’s first district title in 2018, breaking a twenty-year dry spell. In his four-year stint at Farmington, Cioroch compiled a 19-18 record.

After an extensive coaching search, DiBartolomeo was excited to hire Cioroch as the eighth coach in the storied-program’s history.

“After weeks of interviewing several candidates, we are confident that we found the best fit for Western’s new head football coach. Coach Cioroch continuously exuded passion and knowledge for the game and coaching young men every step of the way throughout the interview process. We’re highly encouraged by his vision for maintaining and further developing the football program in the years ahead.”

Cioroch replaces interim head coach Mike Weiskopf who led the Warriors to a district final appearance and a 5-3 mark last season. The newly hired Warrior head coach said that he is still assembling his coaching staff, but said he plans to retain a large majority of coaches from last year’s staff.

A special education teacher, Cioroch joined the Falcons’ coaching staff after landing a teaching job in Farmington fresh out of college. As a young coach, Cioroch coached at the lower levels before moving up the ranks to become the varsity defensive coordinator and eventually the Falcons’ head coach in 2017.

Speaking about his philosophy of the game, Cioroch said, “I try to put kids in the best positions to be successful. As a staff, we build schemes around the team’s strengths, and what we do best. I never try to fit a square peg into a round hole.”

A stickler for detail and one who always plans ahead, Cioroch already has some goals in mind for the program when he officially meets his 2021-22 Warriors’ after the new year.

“We will run a program that people can be proud of, in the classroom, in the community, and on the football field. We look forward to building high character young men, and equipping them with the tools they need to be successful in not just football, but in life in general.”

Cioroch is excited about taking over a Warriors’ program that has qualified for the playoffs the past eleven seasons and eighteen of the last twenty years.

When asked what intrigued him about the Western job, the young field general said, “Walled Lake Western has such a rich tradition of successful football over the years. It has been one of the premier programs in the area for so long and I’m more than honored to be selected to lead this program into the future.”

A 2007 graduate of Berkley High School, Cioroch played both guard and inside linebacker for the Bears and legendary coach Jim MacDougall. The newly hired Warriors’ head coach is married to his wife of three years, Ciera.

“I want to thank Walled Lake Western for selecting me as their head football coach. I look forward to embracing their tremendous tradition and helping build upon it in the future.”
