Coach Mike Zdebski has been coaching at Walled Lake Western since 1994, when he joined the staff as Offensive Coordinator bringing the Wing-T offense to Walled Lake. Since that time, he moved on to become the defensive coordinator when the Warriors won the 1996 Class AA state championship. Then in 1999 as Head Coach he lead Western to a 14-0 record and the Division 1 Championship, the schools second title in four years and finished ranked 11th in the USA Today national fooball poll. Also in 1999 the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association named Mike Division 1 coach of the year. Under Zdebski's watch the Warriors have become a force to reckon with compiling a record of 83 wins to 42 losses and the highest winning percentage in school history. Also since joining the he Warriors, Western compiled a string of 14 winning seasons in a row from 1995 to 2008 the longest in school history. Coach "Z" began his coaching career at Garden City High School and has also spent time at Berkley High before joining the Warriors in 1994.
Coach Zdebski was raised in Garden City by his parents Frank and Joyce. A graduate of Olivet College where Mike was an Academic All-American football player, Mike also holds a Master's Degree from Michigan State University. Mr. Zdebski is also a math teacher who has been recognized for his teaching abilities with the Who's Who of Teaching Award three times. Mike has made it a point to stress academics to his football teams which have won three Academic All-State Championships and finish in the top ten four other years.
Mike and his wife Wendy reside in Wixom with their two sons Brent who currently plays Linebacker for Western and Trevor an avid wrestler. They have two dogs named Lady and Jack. Contact Coach Zdebski.
